Since 2006 the Childhelp® Children’s Center of Virginia (CCCV) has operated the Childhelp® Summer Enrichment Program designed to benefit children and youth in grades 5-12 residing in eastern Fairfax, most in the neighborhood of Culmore in Falls Church. This program focuses on building basic math, literacy, vocabulary, writing and life skills, and includes a career exploration component.
The theme of the 2010 Childhelp® Summer Enrichment Program is “Building the Framework for Sustained Academic Success.” The curriculum for the program has been developed to establish a foundation for youth to learn teamwork, communication, and conflict resolution skills by utilizing a hands-on approach that incorporates opportunities to learn about construction, engineering, architecture, environmental science, and technology.
The 2010 Childhelp® Summer Enrichment Program runs from July 7th until August 22nd. Student participants attend classroom activities three days a week, as well as attend career exploration activities and summer fun activities. The Summer Enrichment Program is offered to youth not enrolled in summer school, and is the only program in the community that operates a summer academic and life skills enrichment program.
This program includes academic/enrichment classes, career exploration trips, and other fun activities and field trips. The activities provided will help the students retain and build up their knowledge and prepare them for the next school year, give them insight on future career possibilities, and give them opportunities to visit places and participate in activities that may otherwise be unavailable to them. We have some wonderful activities planned for the kids, such as visiting the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project, Wegman’s Food Mart, Lockheed Martin and their F-22 and F-35 plane simulators, and New York City.
